The Conference
The Ussher Society held its 45th Annual Conference at the Hotel Rembrandt, Dorchester Road, Weymouth, Dorset between the 3rd to the 6th of January 2007.

The four day event covered earth and environmental sciences in the South West of England and comprised field trips on Wednesday 3rd and Saturday 6th January and two days of presentations (talks and posters). Local fossil collectors also displayed their recent finds of scientific importance.

The main presentation days were Thursday 4th and Friday 5th of January - many thanks to those who contributed. The Scott Simpson lecture on Thursday morning was given by Prof Richard Fortey, President of the Geological Society of London and the joint half day session with the SW Regional Group of the Geological Society took place on the Friday afternoon, based on the theme of ‘Geo-Tourism’.

The Field Excursions
The field excursion on Wednesday 3rd was to Osmington MIlls to examine the structure and stratigraphy of the area along the Abbotsbury-Ridgeway Fault System and to examine the fine coastal sections in the Oxfordian-Kimmeridgian rocks (led by Prof. John Cope)

On Saturday 6th, the excursion was to the Charmouth Heritage Centre and to Lyme Regis to examine the engineering works (led by Richard Edmonds, Chris Pamplin and others).
